Texas Instruments calculators are so variegated. We can always get something from their catalogue for every budget plan. Even the cheap products are reliable. Thus, this causes some uncertainty when new students are looking for a counter companion. Should we save some bucks with TI 82? Should we insist on getting TI 84? Now, let me tell you : while TI 82 is indeed a decent wallet-friendly option, if you can afford TI 84, then stop bothering yourself with the nonsense. You must go with TI-84.
TI-84 boasts much, much stronger performance and usability over TI-82. Its processor is a lot faster, as it uses Zilog Z80 15 MHz. TI-82 still uses Zilog Z80 6 MHz. Multiply the issue with the RAM; TI-84 is armed with 128 KB RAM while TI-82 relies on 28 KB RAM. As the result, TI-84 can count numbers, solve equations, and graph functions within significantly less time than TI-82. Well, at least, both of them has the same extra wide display screen which can display 16×8 characters in 96×64 pixels for your convenience.
Furthermore, TI-84 comes with a flash memory, allowing you to upgrade the operating system as well as keeping some important applications. Even, TI-84 comes with 12 built-in apps pre-loaded already. Also, TI-84 has more connectivity options, as you can use either the standard I/O port or the Mini USB port. At the contrast, TI-82 does not support both flash memory and Mini USB. There is an I/O port available, though.
